Clear language & accessible content

Plain Language & Multilingual Communication

Make information easier to understand and use, across languages and for people with disabilities.

North Align helps government agencies and prime contractors delivering government projects improve plain-language content, translation quality, and digital accessibility. We prepare and refine documents, forms, and web content for the people who need them.

How we help

Clear communication, from draft to publication

An engagement can focus on one item or a coordinated set of English and multilingual materials.

Plain language & editing

Rewrite forms, notices, policies, guidance, and reports so readers can find the main point and understand what to do. Improve structure, wording, and instructions while preserving required meaning.

Possible outputsRevised English content, editing notes, and reusable style guidance.

Translation & quality review

Translate and review content with qualified language professionals. Check meaning, terminology, tone, and completeness, and coordinate audience or community review where useful.

Possible outputsReviewed translations, terminology resources, and a documented review record.

Website localization

Adapt web pages, navigation, forms, and interface text for the intended language audiences. Keep instructions, links, and language versions consistent as content changes.

Possible outputsLocalized content, publication support, and a content-maintenance plan.

Digital accessibility

Accessibility in the finished document or page

We improve the final files and pages so people can navigate and use the information, including with assistive technology. Checks cover the agreed formats and requirements.

Documents and PDFs
Apply heading styles, meaningful links, accessible tables, image descriptions, document language, and appropriate PDF tags and reading order.
Web pages and forms
Improve semantic structure, labels, instructions, text alternatives, contrast, language identification, and keyboard access within the agreed scope.
Checks after formatting and translation
Use automated checks and manual review, including relevant keyboard and screen-reader checks, to find and address issues introduced by layout, export, or localization.

We agree on the required version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, such as WCAG 2.1 Level AA or WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and any applicable Section 508 or agency requirements. We document checks, corrections, and remaining issues for follow-up.

Content & terminology readiness for AI

Prepare the information behind your AI workflow

North Align helps prepare a defined collection of documents, forms, procedures, or web pages for use in an AI workflow. We clarify content, organize source references, and document terminology so staff and implementation teams can work from an agreed set of materials.

Source inventory and version review
List the agreed materials, languages, owners, and version dates. Flag duplicate, outdated, missing, or conflicting content for the agency’s review.
Clear, structured content
Improve headings, wording, instructions, and source references while preserving required meaning. Prepare files in formats agreed with the implementation team.
Terminology and language consistency
Document preferred terms, definitions, and reviewed language equivalents. Preserve meaningful differences between programs and identify where owner decisions are needed.
Review and maintenance record
Provide an issue log, change record, approval status, and guidance for keeping source and language versions current.

We agree on the source collection, formats, languages, review rounds, and handover requirements before work begins. Agency content owners resolve policy questions and approve substantive changes.

This work can support an AI Workflow Pilot & Verification engagement or form part of our AI Knowledge Readiness & Quality Assurance support for prime contractors. Integration responsibilities are agreed with the agency or prime’s technical team.

Leadership experience

Experience delivering multilingual public information

Founder Adam Taha is the former director of Minnesota’s Enterprise Translations Office. He helped agencies deliver multilingual public information and develop consistent approaches to translation quality and service delivery.

That experience connects language quality with the review, publication, and maintenance steps that keep information usable.

Working together

Start with the audience and the intended use

Scope, timeline, and deliverables are agreed before work begins.

  1. Define the audience

Agree on the readers, purpose, languages, formats, source owners, accessibility requirements, and approval process.

  2. Create and check

Improve the source content, translate or localize as needed, and check language quality and accessibility in the intended format.

  3. Publish and maintain

Provide approved files or content, review findings, and guidance for keeping versions current. Coordinate remaining website changes with your team.

Questions about getting started

Can we start with one document or web page?

Yes. A focused assignment can cover one form, notice, guidance document, or page before expanding to a wider set of materials.

Can you improve content we already translated?

Yes. We can review existing translations against the source, correct inconsistencies, and address accessibility issues in the agreed files or pages.
